Frequently Asked Questions
How DormDash worked, in the questions customers asked most
Orders & Delivery
Most deliveries took 30-45 minutes from order placement to the door, including restaurant prep time and delivery. Farther restaurants (10+ miles) could take 45-60 minutes. Orders could be tracked in real time on the platform.
Yes. Once an order was accepted, the customer received a tracking link showing the driver's location and estimated arrival time, plus notifications when the order was picked up and when the driver was nearby.
Missing or incorrect items were handled by working with the restaurant and issuing a refund or credit. Photos of the problem helped resolve these cases faster.
Yes. DormDash delivered to every dorm, apartment, and building on Pepperdine's campus, and the student drivers knew the gates, shortcuts, and drop-off points.
No. Only immediate orders were supported; customers placed an order when they were ready to receive it within 30-60 minutes.
Payments & Pricing
DormDash accepted all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and digital wallets. All payments were processed through Stripe.
Tipping was optional. Most customers tipped 15-20% for standard service, and more for large orders or bad weather. 100% of the tip went directly to the driver.
No. Pricing was transparent and every fee was shown upfront: base delivery fee ($5.99), service fee (15%), distance fee ($0.39/mile), far-away fee ($7.99 for 10+ miles), and a $0.49 platform fee. There were no surprise charges and no surge pricing.
Cancelling before the restaurant accepted the order meant a full refund. Once the restaurant started preparing it, a cancellation could incur a fee to cover food costs.
Account & Safety
Yes. Payments ran through an industry-leading payment processor. Card information was encrypted and never stored on DormDash's servers.
DormDash drivers were verified Pepperdine students. Student status was verified before onboarding, so deliveries came from fellow Waves who knew the campus and community.
The delivery address was set during checkout, and customers were asked to include their dorm or building name and room number for accurate delivery.
